We are so happy to announce July’s Stargardt’s Star, Ruby.
Ruby is a fantastic young member of the Stargardt’s community who consistently displays resilience, strength and positivity in everything she does. We asked Ruby to tell us a little bit about her experiences and here’s what she said:
“Hi, I’m Ruby! I live in a lovely seaside town in the UK called Whitstable. My diagnosis journey started when I was at my local opticians and they noticed deposits on the back of my eye as part of a routine scan. I was referred to a specialist at a local hospital who bluntly told me I was going to go blind which was quite frankly terrifying. Thankfully, the specialists at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London provided more details and hope, and it was then that I was introduced to Stargardt’s disease and I have been adapting ever since! It’s fair to say things are changing as a result of my condition however it’s not stopping me from doing all the hobbies and things I want to do! To anyone impacted by Stargardt’s, I would say, be yourself, take advantage of this reminder that life is precious, and explore the community that I am yet to fully embrace to seek support and work together to make a difference. I am extremely honoured to be Stargardt’s Star this month and proud to be associated with such a great charity!”
Ruby’s strength and resilience was very evident recently when The Davis Family (Ruby, Alan and Rachael) participated in the Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for Stargardt’s Connected and completed the challenge with a whopping £6153 raised.
